Tire Balancing
Like unaligned wheels, when your tires aren’t balanced, you’ll notice your steering wheel vibrate. Tire balances should be performed whenever you swap tires – for instance, if you replace a flat tire with a new one – to ensure all tire weights meet manufacturer specs. Well-balanced tires produce a smoother ride, increased MPG, and more even tire tread wear.
Wheel Alignments
Your tires should be straight in order for your vehicle to be controlled properly. Tires that are misaligned will cause your vehicle to veer to one side and reduce your ability to steer. Any signs of vibration while driving is an indicator that you may need your wheels aligned. Visit a tire alignment shop near you and ask for a tire inspection and wheel alignment.
Tire Rotations
It’s recommended that you get your tires rotated with every oil change. This prevents uneven wear on your tires’ tread, ultimately increasing your tires’ lifespan, improving fuel economy, and enhancing driving performance. During your tire rotation, we’ll example the quality of your tires and their tread depth, then let you know if and when you should buy new ones.

How often do I need to replace tires?
Replacing tires can be pricey. Luckily, newer car tires can last for years – with the proper tire maintenance. Depending on your driving style, regular road conditions, the tire mileage rating, and climate, car tires can last anywhere from 30,000 to 80,000 miles, on average.
Above all else, you should always replace tires when you notice any of the red flags listed above. Speak with someone at your chosen McCarthy tire service center for assistance.

Do I need to replace all four tires at once?
While it’s not necessary to replace all your tires at the same time, it is highly recommended, especially if your tires are older with tens of thousands of miles, or if you drive an AWD vehicle.
Remember to speak with your tire service advisor about your options. Although a full set of new tires is the typical recommendation, you may be an atypical case!

Why does one tire keep losing air pressure?
If you notice your TPMS light keeps coming on, even after you fill your tires to the right PSI and reset it, you could be looking at a small leak.
- In some cases, the rim could be bent just enough to let air leak out from the side of the tire. You’ll want a full tire inspection performed to see if bent rim repair is an option, or if the rim caused bead damage that would necessitate a tire replacement.
- You may also have a small puncture, either in the tread or the sidewall. If the puncture is small enough and located in the tread, tire service centers can sometimes patch it without any significant quality issues. If the tire puncture is in the sidewall, you’ll need to purchase new tires, as these cannot be repaired safely.
- A poor tire valve system can be to blame, as well. Valve stems can deteriorate over time and slowly start leaking air.
- Temperature changes also affect tire PSI by as much as 10-15%. Be sure to adjust tire pressure each winter and summer.
How long can I drive on a “donut” or spare tire?
Donuts or spare tires are for emergency use only. If you get a flat, your spare tire will enable you to get back home or to the nearest tire repair center. This is usually limited to about 70 miles of use, and you shouldn’t drive faster than 40-50 mph while using a donut tire.

How can I make my tires last longer?
Routine maintenance – which includes tire rotations at every oil change, balancing and wheel alignment – is the best way to keep your tires healthy. You should also keep them properly inflated (check the PSI number on your driver’s door jamb), avoid potholes and curbs, and don’t drive or brake too aggressively.

What type of tire do you need?
Your choice of tires should be dependent on how you drive and the typical road conditions in which you drive. For pickup owners, all-terrain and winter-grade truck tires might make the most sense because they'll offer a high amount of surface area and deeper tread-perfect for snowy, muddy, and slick conditions. If you're looking to buy tires for your two-door coupe, a standard set of all-season tires that are sized for your car should work well. If you're not sure which set of tires will work best for you, contact an associate at your nearest McCarthy dealership to schedule an appointment.
